BMW Vision Neue Klasse X Has its World Premiere; the Future of BMW’s Two Main Product Lines are Showcased

(Munich/Beijing) Today, BMW Vision Neue Klasse X made its world premiere at 2024 BMW Group Annual Conference, showcasing future design of BMW’s future SAV for the first time. Additionally, more information about Neue Klasse was revealed: it will offer a driving experience that embodies both BOOST and EASE, while remaining committed to sheer driving pleasure.

In its international communications, the BMW Group uses the German term Die Neue Klasse instead of The New Class (“新世代” in Chinese) for these concept cars. This is because the German expression better resonates with BMW associates and European customers, evoking memories and feelings of BMW’s historical evolution 60 years ago. Born in 1962, the BMW 1500 and its successors were collectively known as Die NEUE KLASSE, not because of the “class” nomenclature, but to honor their pioneering spirit, distinctive style, and appeal to a new class of customers. In fact, no car was named “Certain Class” at that time. Future Neue Klasse models will also have their own specific names.

The use of this historically-referenced name in its international communications signals that the change, which occurred in the 2020s and 2030s, will mirror the one from 1960s: a brand and product transformation fueled by courage, strength, and innovation to turn challenges into opportunities. This whole company and all employees will embrace this significant leap.

To showcase the innovative spirit of the Neue Klasse, BMW has launched BMW i Vision Circular and BMW i Vision Dee, both embodying future BMW models’ core features. The first BMW Vision Neue Klasse vehicle was unveiled at IAA 2023 in Germany. It is a mid-sized four-door sedan with a new design and digital interaction innovations like BMW Panoramic Vision. The launch of the second BMW Vision Neue Klasse vehicle, BMW Vision Neue Klass X, completes the outlook for both sedan and SAV.

Sedan and SAV are BMW’s core products, embodying the brand’s innovative spirit. In the 1960s, the Neue Klasse models created the “Premium Sports Sedan” segment, while in 1999, BMW X5 pioneered high-performance SAV. With over 12 million customers worldwide, the BMW X family has been a segment leader for more than 25 years. With time going by, BMW’s spirits are still concrete. The future of BMW is clear now – BMW Neue Klasse family will be more future and more BMW.

The overall design of BMW Vision Neue Klass X is reminiscent of the sedan version, embodying BMW’s century-long automotive design philosophy while evoking new emotions with futuristic and dramatic changes.

  • The exterior seamlessly combines modernity and heritage, featuring fresh yet classic BMW elements that enhance luxurious and sporty DNA.
  • The spacious cabin is bathed in natural light, colors, and materials, with an interior crafted from 100% natural substances derived from plants or minerals, reflecting the future of luxury.
  • The BMW Panoramic Vision replaces the instrument panel. Combined with the new multifunction steering wheel and central display, the digital features guide the forward line of sight in a layered design, creating an ambiance that changes according to mood through customised colors and sounds. More than 20 years after the first BMW iDrive, BMW is once again reimagining future human-machine interaction solutions.
  • Remarkably, the front design of the Vision X model diverges from that of the sedan, while still featuring BMW’s iconic double-kidney grilles as a nod to tradition and highlighting its distinctive character.

In the future, BMW Neue Klasse family will bring:

  • The sixth generation of BMW eDrive: over 20% increase in cell energy density, 25% increase in vehicle efficiency, 30% increase in range, and the transition to an 800-volt system.
  • The new electric architecture has 4 Super Brains. The software and hardware in charge of powertrain and driving dynamics management are 100% self-developed by BMW, with 10 times higher computing power. In the future, BMW’s driving experiences will be based on EASE and BOOST modes. BOOST is designed to provide ultimate sporty handing and driving experience. EASE, on the other hand, focuses on comfortable and relaxed mobility. EASE integrates all autonomous driving and parking systems to assist users’ driving.
  • The Personal Sound Experience with the new HYPERSONX further enhances BMW IconicSounds Electric, highly welcomed by customers.

BMW Neue Klasse is scheduled to be launched in 2025 and start local production in Shenyang in 2026. Based on BMW’s longstanding emphasis on the Chinese market, the China R&D team of BMW has been deeply involved in the development of Neue Klasse models to ensure that Chinese customer needs will be met. Currently, BMW’s China R&D team is intensively involved in various technical testing and validating. BMW Neue Klasse family is coming, and will be futuristic, more BMW, and will more deeply understand the Chinese market!
