BMW launches the all-new BMW i3, the first all-electric mid-size sports sedan, to accelerate electric offensive

Beijing. On March 31, 2022, BMW launched its first all-electric mid-size sports sedan, the all-new BMW i3. Featuring together the attributes of the sporty BMW 3 Series Sedan with the innovative BMW i brand, the all-new BMW i3 is a testimony to the BMW Group’s great efforts on continuously diversifying the electric lineup across all segments. The BMW Group has announced to further accelerate the electric offensive to have 15 BEVs including pre-series models in production in 2022 a short time ago. The NEUE KLASSE based on the all new architecture will be in trial production in 2024 and make its debut in 2025. By the end of 2025, the BMW Group is forecasted to deliver 2 million BEVs worldwide. In the future, the BMW Group will continue to lead innovative development of the industry, promote the implementation of future mobility, and firmly accelerate towards the electric future.

The all-new BMW i3 eDrive35L variant is officially launched today with the MSRP at RMB 349,900. Tailored exclusively for the Chinese market, the all-new BMW i3 not only trailblazed the segment of all-electric mid-size premium sports sedan, but also set a new segment benchmark with up to ten high-value standard features. It is a clear proof of the BMW Group’s dedication to the “China First” approach—attaching great importance to the customer expectations in China, responding quickly to local market changes and synchronizing with China’s development.

In addition, the all-new BMW i3 has already been listed in the issued by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which means that the all-new BMW i3 enjoys full exemption of purchase tax nationwide, as well as related local NEV subsidies. The all-new BMW i3 inherits the acclaimed sportiness of the BMW 3 Series and blends it with the innovative spirit of BMW i. As a result, the all-new BMW i3 offers superb handling and excellent electric performance, and ultimately creates a unique electric driving pleasure. Benefited from the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology with synchronized excitation technology, the all-new BMW i3 can deliver a peak torque at both low and high speeds. Thus, the all-new BMW i3 eDrive35L also can achieve a maximum output of 210kW and peak torque of 400N·m, and a 0-100km/h acceleration within 6.2 seconds through a single electric motor. In addition, the batteries of the all-new BMW i3 is made of 70kWh NCM lithium-ion cells, with a CLTC range of 526-km. The unique adaptive energy recuperation system of the all-new BMW i3 offers remarkable electric driving pleasure. Customers can choose the D mode on the gear shifter, in which case the vehicle would behave similar to a combustion engine with the idle speed, and also can adjust the level of energy recuperation according to the distance from the car ahead.
