BEIJING -- By fast responding to the external challenges in the Chinese automotive market, the BMW Group delivered 592,873 BMW and MINI vehicles to Chinese customers in the first three quarters of 2022. The fully-electric BMW models maintained strong momentum, with a 65 percent year-on-year increase of sales in the first nine months of the year.

I am especially excited to see the recent production ramp-up at our future-oriented BMW iFACTORY, with this increasing the choice of ‘green’ electric BMW vehicles for our customers.”
The BEV sales maintained growth momentum with a 65 percent year-on-year increase between January and September. Apart from the BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX3 and BMW i3, BMW will introduce the first-ever BMW i7 to the Chinese market. As the brand’s first fully-electric flagship sedan, the BMW i7 will further boost the Group’s electric offensive. To provide convenient charging services, BMW has further expanded its charging network to over 450,000 public charging pillars across more than 320 cities in China by the end of September.
As the pioneer of the BMW X family and the premium SAV segment, more than 40,000 BMW X5 delivered to Chinese customers in the first nine months of the year. The all-new BMW X5 maintained strong presence in the segment since starting local production this March. The average monthly sales of the all-new BMW X5 almost reached 8,000 units in the past two months.
The BMW M family maintained strong market performance, seeing a 44 percent year-on-year increase in sales in the first three quarters, with the brand celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Following the launch of the first-ever BMW i4 M50 and BMW iX M60, the first-ever BMW XM – the first BMW M model with a high-performance hybrid system – started pre-sales in September, pushing forward the electrification of the BMW M family.
MINI posted an over 20 percent year-on-year sales increase on MINI CABRIO and MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS models in the first 9 months of the year. In September, the MINI Concept Aceman celebrated its Asia premiere in Shanghai. As the first crossover model from MINI, it offers an overview of the design and digital technology of the new MINI family.
BMW Motorrad has seen steady business growth and continued its leading position in the premium motorcycle market, with an 8.4 percent year-on-year increase in sales between January and September. In terms of the electrification for BMW Motorrad, the Urban Mobility series of BMW Motorrad’s 6 major series will be fully electrified by 2030. The fully-electric BMW CE04, as the pioneer of electrification in the Urban Mobility series, has been launched in the Chinese market.
On global market, the BMW Group delivered 1,747,889 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers between January and September. A total of 128,196 fully-electric BMW and MINI vehicles were sold in the first nine months of the year – more than double its BEV sales in the same period of last year (+114.8%).
