Enhancing talent development and future-oriented skills

In order to meet the needs to employees in the new era and support the corporate strategy of “Electrification, Digitalization and Sustainability”, BMW's human resources teams are constantly working on talent sustainability, diversity and attracting high-tech talents. BMW not only offers its employees an attractive job, but also a stage for them to fully realize their potential.

In terms of talent development, BMW continues to update its internal learning resources to help employees enhance their future-oriented skills with the aim of better supporting business development and company transformation. In particular, BMW always places great importance in the leadership development of its employees. In 2021, BMW redefined its BMW Leadership Concept Model in line with the evolving market environment, incorporating new elements such as psychological safety and paradoxical leadership, to address future challenges. These new elements have been embedded into all leadership programs and internal processes, with the aim of developing a new generation of successful leaders.

In parallel, BMW is continuously increasing its investment in training programs. In 2021, the BMW Brilliance Training Centre started operations at the Shenyang China-Germany Equipment Park. The Training Center has the capacity to provide training to 40,000 people and deliver more than 1,500 training sessions per year. As one of the most advanced, modern and comprehensive training bases within BMW Group global network, the Training Center will play a key role in BMW’s sustainable talent strategy and contribute to the company’s high-quality development in China.

Attracting talents to inspire business success

In addition to developing its current employees, BMW is also actively recruiting young talents, especially crossover digital and IT talents. China is home to BMW largest R&D and digitalization footprint outside of Germany, with a team of more than 1,650 people, including around 600 software developers. In 2019, BMW established a digital company, LingYue Digital Information Technology Co., Ltd., in Beijing, before opening a Nanjing branch of LingYue in 2021. In the same year, BMW and Archermind established the joint venture BMW Archermind, also in Nanjing. The flat corporate structures and agile working models of the new enterprises have contributed BMW's digitalization acceleration in China.

Effective human resources work has been the cornerstone of BMW's rapid development in China. There are now more than 24,000 highly-qualified employees working across BMW entities in China. The outstanding contribution of this workforce enabled the BMW Group to set another sales record in China in 2021, delivering 846,237 BMW and MINI vehicles, an increase of 8.9 percent year-on-year, and retaining top spot in China’s premium car market.

In the coming years, BMW will continue to pursue its strategic goals of electrification, digitalization and sustainability, with its Neue Klasse models to come in 2025. By that time, the BMW Group is expected to have delivered two million purely electric vehicles worldwide. In support of this overall strategy, BMW's human resource departments will remain focused on building “people-oriented” organizations, using innovation to attract outstanding talents, and developing its employees to contribute to the sustainable successful of all BMW entities in China.
