BMW iX3 Achieves a Record Breaking Super 5 Star Rating at C-NCAP

(Beijing) The BMW iX3 was recently awarded a C-NCAP Super 5-star rating with a total score of 95.7% and ranked first out of 82 tested models, breaking the overall rating record under the current protocol. It also obtained full marks in active safety test, and all formal assessment test items ranked top 20%. BMW iX3 is produced in Shenyang only and exported abroad, fulfilling the promise of “In China, for China, and for The World”, at the same time demonstrating both the rigidity and high-quality of BMW global production. The record breaking result of C-NCAP this time again provides strong endorsement for BMW Brilliance’s local R&D and production capability, and further consolidate BMW’s leading position in future mobility.

Mature design and manufacturing for all-round safety

The occupant protection test includes the Frontal 100% Superimposed Rigid Wall Collision Test, Moving Deformable Barrier Side Impact Test, Frontal 40% Overlap Deformable Barrier Collision Test, and Whiplash Test. The BMW iX3 scored 19.546, 20, 19.259 and 4.840 in the respective sub-categories, as well as 4.000 pluses points, achieving a sub-total score of 67.645, a scoring rate of 96.64%. This is thanks to the outstanding passive safety design of BMW iX3. The extensive use of 1000 MPa hot-formed high-strength steel combined with well-designed structural stiffness, this creates a sturdy driving space for the user. In the pedestrian protection test, the BMW iX3 achieves a 87.01% scoring rate with its active hood that pops up when pedestrian collision is detected, effectively mitigating the impact on the pedestrian's head.

Thanks to BMW's battery cell technology, the BMW iX3’s NCM-811 lithium-ion cells ensure safety both chemically and physically. The battery case is made of aluminum alloy, together with the multiple internal reinforcement beams, cushioned energy-absorbing structure on the sides as well as between modules, and liquid temperature control system, to ensure the battery pack safety. The battery pack is positioned at the center of the chassis, increasing the overall rigidity of the vehicle while effectively reducing the risk of direct impact on the battery pack during front and rear collisions. The battery pack went through up to 128 mechanical verification tests such as fire, seawater immersion and drops, as well as 994 software function tests to meet global market regulations and BMW's stringent quality standards, ensuring that every vehicle purchased by customers offers a high level of safety.

Advanced driving assistant for safety at all times

The BMW iX3 passed the active safety test with a perfect full score. Driving Assistant Pro system, which comes as a standard configuration for full BMW iX3 product line-up, was awarded "VERY GOOD", a full four-star rating in the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program), proving the validity of the technology. It is comfort and safety oriented and provides customers with functions such as Active Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assistant and Lane Changing Assistant. The Approach Control Warning with Braking Function can remind the driver to slow down and the vehicle will also apply the brakes itself in risk of collision. Traffic Jam Assistant can enhance driver comfort, convenience and safety and reduce driving fatigue effectively.
