March 29, 2021
(Beijing) On March 27th, BMW Brilliance turned off unnecessary power at the Tiexi, Dadong and Powertrain plants, and lit up the main office building’s conveyor system and the outdoor BMW iX3 billboard with renewable energy power. BMW Brilliance used this creative move to show support for Earth Hour 2021 initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). On March 26th, the day before Earth Hour 2021, BMW called on car owners and associates nation-wide to drive on ECO PRO mode—a standard configuration in BMW models. The theme of this movement is Go Green for a Sustainable Future, Have You Eco-Proed?
Earth Hour is a global citizen movement initiated by the WWF in 2007, and aims to promote the environmental awareness in society and encourage the public to practice green actions in daily life. In conjunction with "Earth Hour", the world's largest public welfare and environmental protection event, BMW has launched a series of public welfare events for plants, associates and customers to further express BMW's commitment to sustainable development with practical actions.
BMW Brilliance plants in Shenyang have taken a series of creative low-carbon environmental actions.
On the night of March 27th, BMW Brilliance's three plants including Tiexi, Dadong and Powertrain jointly welcomed the arrival of Earth Hour. In addition to reducing unnecessary energy consumption, they lit up the iconic conveyor system at the main office building and the outdoor BMW iX3 billboard with clean energy conserved by associates by turning off computers and other office equipment during lunch hour for nearly a week. And what is the significance of these actions? Since 2019, BMW Brilliance has achieved 100% renewable electricity in its Shenyang production base. The fully-electric BMW iX3, which is the first model that produced by BMW Brilliance to be equipped with the latest fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology, has not only demonstrated our strong power in green production, but also our commitment to high quality development, to “world-class made in China”.
On March 26th, an art installation made by BMW Brilliance associates using one day’s worth of recyclable waste collected from the office area of a plant made its debut at Plant Tiexi. Reproducing these recyclable resources as an art installation gives the public a clear idea of the waste it is possible to generate in a day, and encourages associates to reduce waste in daily life. This week, BMW Brilliance Plant Tiexi, a national 4A tourist attraction, has been transformed with interactive sessions that reflect the theme of Sustainable Development, giving out “Save the Earth” badges to tourists to encourage more people to join in on environmental protection actions.
BMW also called on customers and associates all over the country to take part in the Green Movement themed Go Green for a Sustainable Future, Have You Eco-Proed? on March 26th to commute using ECO PRO mode (a standard configuration in BMW models) and upload the reward mileage displayed on the vehicle trip computer to the My BMW app.
The ECO PRO mode is the core component of BMW Efficient Dynamics. Drivers can directly switch to this mode by pressing the Driving Experience Control Button on the left side of the gear lever. The driving computer will intelligently optimize the electronic system inside the car and reduce inefficient operations of the engine for fuel efficiency. The energy saved under the ECO PRO mode will be reflected as a numerical value on the reward mileage display. The core concept of the BMW Efficient Dynamics strategy is centered on consistently reducing energy consumption (and therefore CO2 emissions)—improving driving performance and enhancing driving experience at the same time. Thanks to BMW's innovative technology, bimmers can have their cake and eat it too. In addition, BMW Efficient Dynamics has been carried out as early as 2007, and kept its advantage to be a fundamental link in the DNA of all BMW models until now. Most importantly for BMW customers, unparalleled driving pleasure does not need to be compromised to achieve sustainable travel.
Sustainable development is also the cornerstone of BMW Brilliance's corporate strategy. BMW Brilliance has ranked no.1 on the Auto Industry Green Development Index for two consecutive years, and received National Green Plant award for four consecutive years in China.
