BMW Brilliance’s 2 Millionth Car Rolls Off the Production Line

(Shenyang) On January 30th, BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd. celebrated the roll off of its 2 millionth car from the production line in Plant Dadong, Shenyang. Since the 1 millionth locally produced BMW car rolled off in 2015, BMW Brilliance’s production has soared to 2 million cars in just 3 years. This rapid increase reflects the brand’s success in the premium market in China. The 2 millionth car was BMW Brilliance’s latest new energy vehicle (NEV), the All New BMW 530Le iPerformance, and is solid proof of the joint venture’s strength in future mobility.

The successful roll off of the 2 millionth car is a prelude to BMW Brilliance’s 15 year anniversary. Driving forward localization and into the next chapter

In 2015, BMW Brilliance became the fastest premium brand to have produced 1 million cars in China, having achieved this in 12 years. Since then, it has taken just 3 years for BMW Brilliance’s production output to take another leap forward and reach 2 million vehicles. In this time, BMW Brilliance has accelerated localization and has expanded its product lineup from three model series to five model series. The Shenyang production base has been comprehensively upgraded, with localization as the cornerstone for BMW Brilliance’s long-term sustainable development.

At the beginning of 2016, the BMW Brilliance Powertrain Plant officially opened, becoming BMW’s most technically advanced and sustainable powertrain plant globally. The New Plant Dadong, opened in May 2017, is a forerunner of Industry 4.0 application in China and a role model for “Made in China 2025”production. This was followed by the opening of BMW Brilliance’s new R&D Center, with China becoming the most comprehensive R&D base for BMW outside of Germany. Then in October 2017, the High Voltage Battery Center was opened, with BMW Brilliance becoming the first premium automotive brand to establish such a facility in China. The continuous investment in the Shenyang production base is a demonstration of BMW Brilliance’s confidence and long-term commitment to the Chinese market.

Since 2009, over 52 billion RMB has been invested in BMW Brilliance’s Shenyang production base, which is now one of BMW Group’s largest production bases. With two major vehicle production plants, Plant Dadong and Plant Tiexi, as well as the Powertrain Plant, BMW Brilliance has laid a solid foundation to drive development and continue leading the Chinese auto market.

World leading production, a role model for auto manufacturing in China

BMW Brilliance’s state-of-the-art production base in Shenyang sets the benchmark for innovative manufacturing, outstanding quality and sustainable development. It also brings China’s auto manufacturing industry to a new level with its forward-looking approach to production. The two fully comprehensive vehicle production plants and the powertrain plant are all break new ground for intelligent manufacturing and Industry 4.0., utilizing Big Data, Internet of Things and other innovative production technologies and systems.

Plants Tiexi and Dadong are both equally capable of producing traditional combustion vehicles and NEVs on the same production line. Painting and assembly of both combustion and electrified models is done on the same single line, and both model versions can be produced from the same car body. Flexible production means that plant and production equipment does not need duplicated investment, and production can be efficiently and quickly tailored to meet demand. This capability is the foundation for introducing new products and achieving highly individualized production.

Every one of the 2 million premium BMW cars that have been produced in Shenyang represents another remarkable achievement in China's auto manufacturing industry. In 2017, BMW Brilliance was awarded a 5 Star Excellence Certification from the Chinese Association for Quality and European Foundation for Quality Management.
