(Beijing/Shenyang) BMW Brilliance’s High Voltage Battery Center in Shenyang was officially opened on Tuesday 24th October, releasing to the public for the first time details of the All New 530Le iPerformance.
This model is the fifth New Energy Vehicle to be launched by BMW Brilliance in China; it is equipped with the latest BMW Group eDrive technology and combustion engine. Its high voltage battery is the first ever developed and produced by BBA. The energy density is 70% higher than the last generation BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid, with fuel consumption as low as 1.9 l/100km. The vehicle meets government NEV requirements and has been included in the national NEV catalogue published by MIIT; it will enter the market early 2018.
Combined electric motor and combustion engine for both powerful and quiet driving
The All New BMW 530Le iPerformance offers the brand’s renowned Drving Experience System switch, with its SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO settings. It also comes with state-of-the-art eDrive system inherited from BMW i. The TwinPower Turbo petrol engine’s 2.0-litre displacement works in tandem with the electric motor, giving an overall system output of 185kw and combined peak torque of 420 Nm. BMW’s unique eBoost function provides swift acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The high voltage battery offers an E-range of 61km, with top electrical speed of 140km/h.
A battery design that perfectly balances e-range, performance and safety
- A new double-module design with battery energy reaching 13 kWh and total weight of only 117.2kg. The battery has 4 double-modules, each containing 24 cells that achieve an energy density of 111Wh/kg.
- The cooling system sits neatly between single modules, using the car’s refrigerant cycle to directly cool the battery, accurate temperature control ensures stable driving performance.
- Power output can instantaneously reach 93kw, and maintains an output of 46 kw. A 15% redundant state of charge design ensures the eBoost function is always working.
Over 60 safety tests including firing, watering, collisions, and leakage tests have been carried out on the battery, cells and battery pack; meeting BMW’s strict, global quality standards. Tests have been carried out in extreme conditions of -30°C, and the battery maintains power output.
Part of the BMW iPerformance family, taking the lead in wireless charging
The all-new BMW 5 Series Le is visually differentiated with iPerformance deisgn elements such as the blue kidney grille slats, “eDrive” door sill plate and i-badge. In the near future, a special edition with wireless charging will be released, offering easy and convenient charging.
