“2016 Safety Car Award” — The all-new BMW X1 scores five star C-NCAP rating

(BEIJING) China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) handed out the “2016 Safety Car Award” award for the all-new BMW X1 on Feb 9, 2017. In the overall crash test, the all-new BMW X1 topped the compact SUV category with an impressive five star rating. This award affirmed the all-new BMW X1’s product safety guarantee, as well as the outstanding production quality from BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. Senior Vice President, Research & Development Center BMW, BMW China Services Ltd, Dr. Martin Sautter and Mr. Liu Yuguang, Director of C-NCAP Assessment Department, attended the award ceremony.

Dr. Sautter said in his speech at the event, “On behalf of BMW, especially in the time of embarking the beginning of THE NEXT 100 YEARS, the BMW Group is much honored by this authority recognition in our product. Meanwhile, 2017 will be an important year for our business in China; with new localized models to be launched like the all-new BMW 1 Series Sedan and the new generation BMW 5 Series. We look forward to win more recognition from the industry, and with that we continue our promise to provide customers with outstanding BMW products.”

The all-new BMW X1 is manufactured by BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd, was launched in the market in May 2016. In the overall C-NCAP test performance, the all-new BMW X1 received a total score of 53.6, scoring rate of 92.4%. Crash test in the front received a high scoring performance, 90.17% and side test of a perfect 18 point. The total grade among various safety tests were above 85%. This balanced performance help the all-new BMW X1 won the five star rating.

Apart from the passive safety to safeguard crash performance, number of active safety features is on the all-new X1, for example: seatbelt alert for front passengers, ESC and tire pressure monitoring, intelligent driving assistant system, collision warning system, adaptive headlight system, etc.

The all-new BMW X1 is the first premium SAV designed for the Chinese market. This new generation of BMW X1 was designed, tuned, and improved based on the feedback of driving habits and needs from Chinese customers. In the same distinctive BMW X family gene, and featuring the longest wheelbase of 2.78m in its class, the all-new BMW X1 brings both outstanding comfort and functionality, also new technology equipment on the new generation of BMW X1that is unparallel in connectivity of its segment. Since the all-new BMW X1 was launched, the car is being highly extolled and remains to be the strongest competitive SUV model in the segment, sales in a single month saw over 8000 units delivered to customers in December 2016.

C-NCAP is a Chinese car safety assessment program that was established in 2006. It is primarily modeled after safety standards based on the NCAP of other countries, and is run by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. C-NCAP is recognized as an important car safety evaluation system in China which prompts the industry to make more efforts on safety, at the same time offering valuable reference for customers.
