BMW Educational Fund Begins 4th Year;
Hundreds of University Students Continue to Benefit

(Guangzhou/Beijng)The 2009 BMW Excellent University Student Award Fund Awarding Ceremony was held in Guangzhou Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) today. Each of the 100 award recipients, from ten of China’s most prestigious technology and engineering universities, were awarded RMB 5,000 Yuan for their outstanding academic achievements and exemplary innovation spirits. Li Xikui, Minister of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Jing Li, Senior Vice President of Human Resources of BMW-Brilliance Automotive Ltd., and Zhu Kongjun, Vice Party Secretary of SYSU, delivered speeches at the ceremony. 2009 is the 4th year of BMW Excellent University Student Award Fund. Altogether, 400 university students have been granted the honor so far.
The five-year “BMW Excellent University Student Award Fund” program is a joint endeavor between the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, BMW China and BMW Brilliance, aiming to help Chinese college students to develop innovative spirit and a sense of social responsibility. This project looks to cultivate a new generation of contributors who dare to innovate and create. Since its conception in 2006, “BMW Excellent University Student Award Fund” has supplied RMB 500,000 each year and granted awards, through the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, to 100 outstanding college students from low-income families. In total, 400 students have benefited from the fund. Some of them have already started their careers after graduation, while some of them have furthered their study. “BMW Excellent University Student Award Fund” has earned great achievements. In addition to the fund, BMW also devotes to “building bridges” among campus and society for college students. This year, BMW will continue to sponsor ten deserving students to a one-month internship at BMW Shenyang Plant. During their internship, these students will not only have the opportunity to learn about the production process of BMW sedans, but also learn about BMW’s management system and be able to experience the essence and root of BMW culture.
BMW hopes to build up a platform for outstanding students by providing financial aid and plant experience, to let them gradually set correct career target and sense of social responsibility; and finally to become polished talent for society and enterprises across the globe. Facing the increasingly tough employment conditions, internship experience at a multi-national cooperate such as BMW could help win a priority for these excellent students.
At the handover ceremony, Ms. Li Jing, Senior Vice President of Human Resources of BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., said: “At this pleasantly green campus, I am very happy to see the new faces of this year’s awarded students here. Outstanding young people are the hope of a country’s future as well as the basic force to accomplishing sustainable development. BMW has always attached great importance in cultivating talents in the automotive industry. It is expected that, with BMW’s efforts and efforts from social powers, more talent will be recognized.”

On June 5th 2008, facing the unexpected disaster BMW has jointly established CCF-BMW Warm Heart Fund with China Charity Federation and initiated the BMW Educational Program on Dec. 8th CCF-BMW Warm Heart Fund will cover a large range of programs including teachers scholarship, excellent undergraduates scholarship and support of education materials, books and facilities. The fund will be used to organize more on site visits and interactive activities to give the people affected matarial and precious spiritual power.
