"Interactive Participation, Learning through Games" - 2008 BMW Children's Traffic Safety Education Program Commences at Its Forth Leg of Shenyang

(Shenyang) "Miniature version" of busy street presents a complete package of traffic signs. On Thursday, 2008 BMW Children's Traffic Safety Education Program set up its Traffic Safety Theme Park at Shenyang He'ping District Children's Palace, bringing the children here a lively traffic safety lesson. 2008 is the fourth successive year that BMW has held the children's traffic safety themed program since 2005. Shenzhen is the forth leg of the ten-city event this year. Mr. Meng Qingru, PR Director of BMW Brilliance, Mr. Zhang Xiaodong, Director of Liaoning Youth Education & Protection Committee, and officials from Shenyang Youth Education Leading Group and Children's Palaces of local districts, attended the Wenzhou Relay Banner Handover Ceremony.

Wearing safety helmets, colorful t-shirts, and under the guidance of trainers and teachers, children played the role of "policemen and drivers" in the life-like traffic environment at the Traffic Safety Theme Park. In addition, through interesting performances of ‘Crossing the Road Safely' and ‘Puppet Show', children become fully aware of the importance of traffic safety in laughter and happiness. Such an interactive environment for participation has stirred up their enthusiasm of learning to a great extent, and has effectively enhanced their traffic safety awareness.

With the theme "Use Zebra Crossing When Going over Street" and in cooperation with China Children's Center, BMW will set up Traffic Theme Parks at local Children's Palaces throughout 2008. Over 3200 Chinese children from over 100 kindergartens will benefit directly from the program through participation to the training session. On Children's Day this year, BMW also launched an ‘Online Children's Traffic Safety Game Park' to bring ‘Children's Traffic Safety Education' to every household. Apart from acquiring traffic safety knowledge, online participants have a chance to participate in a live ‘Children's Traffic Safety Program' event through a lucky draw. Some children in Shenyang became the lucky bird to experience both online and offline Games. Especially worth mentioning is that the Shenyang stop takes place on occasion of BMW Brilliance's 5-year anniversary. To thank employees for their contribution to the company over the last five years, the training program has also offered tickets to children of BMW employees.

Mr. Meng Qingru, PR Director of BMW Brilliance made the following remarks at the relay banner handover ceremony in Shenyang, "As a responsible Corporate Social Citizen, BMW has been dedicated in cultivating good habit of adhering to traffic rules and enhancing children's awareness of self-protection. After four successive years of devotion, BMW Children's Traffic Safety Education Program has become an indispensible part of BMW's China Corporate Social Contribution Activities."

Mr. Zhang En, Deputy-director of Shenyang Education Bureau also said, "BMW has been carrying out the children's traffic safety themed program for years and has been warmly received by people from all walks of life, especially children's parents. Keeping children safe from potential traffic dangers requires not only the care of parents, but also scientific teaching methods from our social environment. BMW has absolutely set up a good example in this respect."

As a world leading automotive product manufacturer, BMW is the First Automaker to Launch Professional Road Safety Training Programs. In China, BMW introduced its first Children's Traffic Safety Education program in 2005, and received strong support and good comments from the government at different levels and people from all walks of life. In 2008, BMW worked with China's renowned kindergarten experts to prepare a "Traffic Safety Package" for children who may have no chance to directly participate in the activities of the 2008 BMW Children's Traffic Safety Education program. Those packages will be distributed to 500 kindergartens to benefit over 100,000 children. After the launching of the Online Children's Traffic Safety Game Park, this number is still on the rise.
